Sažetak Implementiranjem novih mogućnosti u postojeće programe za stolno izdavaštvo
moguće je optimizirati procese digitalne grafičke pripreme. Skriptni programi koji izvršavaju
izradu prijeloma, pod određenim uvjetima, mogu ubrzati i automatizirati digitalnu grafičku
oblikovanja teksta i slika, ispravljanja pogrešaka u tekstu, izrade automatiziranog prijeloma
programima i metodama rada.
Sažetak (engleski) For quite some time the printing business has been under heavy pressure because of
overcapacity, dropping prices and the delocalization of the production to low income
countries. The graphic communications industry, like most other "manufacturing" industries
has increased pressure to drive cost down while simultaneously providing automation. Every
step in the graphic communications value chain is under scrutiny and a candidate for
refinement. To survive in this competitive world, printers have to invest in tools that reduce
production costs, create additional value for their customers and automate production
processes. Automation of workflow processes can provide tremendous value both in terms of
operational efficiency and revenue growth. The benefit of automation in graphic prepress lies
primarily in an increase of efficiency in the production of layout and imposition of repetitive
tasks by shortening lead time. Another benefit is cost reduction, since more work can be done
with fewer staff members.
Prepress processes can be optimised by implementing new features in the existing
desktop publishing programs. Scripting programs that execute layout process under certain
conditions can accelerate, automate and reduce the number of errors in digital prepress when
formatting documents. The main purpose of these theses is to spread the idea about computer
work optimisation in graphic prepress workflows. This research proves that improvements in
graphic prepress processes can be obtained by implementing new suggested models which use
scripting languages. Scripts can be written to execute just one task, complex scripts can
perform multiple tasks and some scripts automate the entire publishing process.
New models for solving complex tasks are proposed to enhance procedures of
inserting, replacing and formatting text and images, correcting errors in the text, making
automated layout of periodicals, automation of work processes based on XML, making
impositions in the layout program, individualization and variable prepress. Quantitative
research was carried out to determine achieved automation and time reduction by using
optimised processes. Prepress models for process improvement are evaluated against standard
processes, and the level of optimization is determined by measuring time, automation and
reliability levels of standard and enhanced models of operation. This proves the hypothesis
that features of workflow processes which quantify savings and benefits can be determined.
From conducted analysis of digital prepress 10 new script workflow models were
made. Each model was evaluated against standard production of the task. By graphic prepress
analysis and script execution evaluation findings about criteria in process selection for
optimisation with scripting technologies were made. Thesis also highlights savings and
benefits of using scripting technologies in graphic prepress. Thesis proves that by replacing
only certain tasks it is possible to automate digital prepress processes since there are tasks that
cannot be optimised. By analysis such tasks were described.
Special interest is given to the hypothesis which states that by adding new script
models to graphic prepress complex tasks that are otherwise hard to address can be optimally
achieved. The hypothesis was proven by implementing scripts that add new functionality to
the production in standard prepress programs.
With scripts that execute complex tasks execution period can be time consuming. This
paper also deals with written script optimization in order to shorten the time of its execution
and to identify factors that affect the script execution time.
