Abstract

Prehrambene ambalaže u Hrvatskoj veličinom tekstualnih informacija nisu prilagođene
starijim slabovidnim osobama. Starijim slabovidnim osobama dobivanje informacija o
namirnicama poput sastava, nutritivnih vrijednosti, alergena i roka upotrebe je vrlo otežano
zbog male veličine slova, odnosno nečitljivosti. Zbog smanjenih motoričkih sposobnosti
starije osobe također često imaju problema s rukovanjem ambalaže odnosno otvaranjem i
zatvaranjem proizvoda. Ovaj rad istražuje kakav redizajn je potrebno napraviti kako bi
prehrambena ambalaža bila jednostavnija za korištenje (ergonomski) i koje preinake
tipografije, boje i kontrasta je potrebno prilagoditi kako bi informacije bile čitljivije
odnosno razumljivije. Za potrebe ovog rada provedeno je istraživanje starijih slabovidnih
osoba na području grada Zagreba, u Centru za odgoj i obrazovanje “Vinko Bek”,
domovima za starije osobe i jedne slabovidne osobe u kućanstvu. U istraživanju je
sudjelovalo 13 osoba, od kojih je 12 slabovidno, a jedna je osoba slijepa od rođenja.
Sudionicima su bile ponuđene tri vrste pisma različitih veličina, uzorci toplo-hladnih boja,
uzorci kontrasta podloge i slova, te uzorci plastične i kartonske ambalaže. Prema
prikupljenim rezultatima, vrsta pisma ima najmanji utjecaj na čitljivost informacija, dok
odnos između boje slova i pozadine ima najveći utjecaj na čitljivost (veći kontrast).
Sudionicima za čitanje više odgovara svijetli tekst (bijela slova) na tamnoj podlozi, nego
obrnuto. Ambalažni materijali koji su poželjni slabovidnim osobama su oni manje lomljivi,
poput plastike i kartona, te kao najuočljivije boje su one iz toplog spektra poput crvene,
žute i magente.

Abstract (english)

The size of the textual information contained on food packaging in Croatia is not adapted
to elderly visually impaired persons. The information on food products such as their
content/ingredients, nutritional value, potential allergens and expiry dates are difficult for
elderly visually impaired persons to read due to the tiny fonts used, i.e., it is practically
illegible. Due to diminished motor skills, elderly persons also encounter frequent problems
when handling, i.e., opening and closing, packaging. This paper examines the types of
redesigns necessary to make food packaging easier to handle (ergonomic) and
modifications to typography, colour and contrast needed to make the information on
packaging more legible and comprehensible. Research for the needs of this paper was
conducted with visually impaired persons in the territory of the city of Zagreb at the Vinko
Bek Development and Education Centre and retirement homes, as well as one visually
impaired person living at home. The research encompassed 13 persons, of whom 12 are
visually impaired and one has been blind since birth. Participants were presented with three
font types of varying size, samples of warm/cold colours, background contrast patterns and
letters, and samples of plastic and cardboard packaging. Based on the gathered results, the
font type has the least impact on the legibility of information, while the relationship
between the colour of the letters and the background has the greatest influence on legibility
(greater contrast). Lighter (white) letters on a dark background suited the participants more
than the opposite. The packaging materials that visually impaired persons most prefer are
the least fragile, such as plastic and cardboard, and the most perceptible colours are those
from the warm end of the spectrum, such as red, yellow and magenta.
